What makes a divan bed low?

Before ordering, compare the new combination with a bed height you already find comfortable. Measure from the floor to the top sleeping surface, including feet or castors.
Choosing the right base height
Check whether the quoted measurement includes feet, gliders or castors.
Allow for the full depth of the mattress.
Consider how easily the user can sit down and stand up.
Check nearby furniture, windowsills and headboard proportions.
If under-bed storage matters, confirm what remains available in the lower base.
Will a low base still be supportive?
Height and support are separate questions. A well-made shallow platform base can provide a firm, stable surface; a sprung-edge base can add a little more cushioning. The mattress remains the largest influence on comfort and pressure relief.
Storage and headboards
Some low bases can be supplied with drawers or lift-up storage, but the reduced internal height can limit capacity. Headboard fittings and the visible proportion of the headboard can also change when the base sits lower, so check the complete specification rather than buying by appearance alone.
